The Third JMFC Judge S Sudindranath on Wednesday, directed Congress MLA M K Somashekar to pay a compensation to former corporator M C Chikkanna, in a defamation case.
The judge has directed the MLA to pay Rs 51,000 as compensation to Chikkanna, who had filed a defamation suit against Somashekar in 2009 for defaming him by using abusive words in a press conference.
Somashekar had defamed Chikkanna as he had levelled allegations that Somashekar had produced a fake caste certificate to obtain a gas agency that was reserved for the Scheduled Tribes. The case of the fake caste certificate is pending before the Director of Scheduled Tribes Department.
