A student of SSLC, who was all set to answer the final paper of SSLC examination, passed away due to a chronic illness on Wednesday.

Sweedel Sweety D'Souza (16), daughter of Stephen D'Souza and Gracy D'Souza of Asaigoli, in Konaje village, had great ambitions about her academic life and had been burning the midnight oil preparing for her board exams, with an aim to emerge as a topper. However, it was not to be. Leukemia claimed her life and she breathed her last in a private hospital in Mangaluru, on Wednesday night. As a student of St Ann's High School, in Mangaluru, she had been consistently scoring well in her studies. As she was preparing for the SSLC board examinations, she had complaints of fever and stomach ache. She got temporary relief after being medicated by a doctor in the locality. However, the problem did not recede completely. Sweedel gave her exams, despite being suffering from stomach ache. On Wednesday, she was admitted to the hospital as the stomach ache increased. After undergoing several tests, she returned to the examination centre and gave her Hindi examination, after which, she was readmitted to the hospital. She was set to answer her Social Science paper on Friday, on the last day of SSLC examinations.

But, fate had other plans. By Wednesday evening, she fell seriously ill that she had to be admitted to the ICU. Without responding to the treatment, she passed away late in the night. The medical report suggested that she was suffering from an acute case of leukemia.

Sweedel's father is a shopkeeper and mother is an employee in a private hospital. The couple have a son Shan, aged 10 years.
