Peenya bus terminal is operational again

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation began its services from Peenya Basaveshwara bus terminal from Thursday.

The corporation would operate 60 out of 980 buses to other districts from the terminal. Services to more than 20 districts are currently operated from Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic). These include Tumakuru, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Bidar, Raichur, Dharwad, Shivamogga, and Davanagere.

While 46 buses departed to various districts on Thursday, the KSRTC is planning to move all 980 buses to the Basaveshwara bus terminal over time.

Built at a cost of Rs 46 crore, the terminal was inaugurated in 2014. KSRTC immediately shifted several of its services to the new terminal, but passengers suffered due to lack of bus connectivity to the terminal from other parts of the city and were forced to take buses to the Peenya terminal from Majestic.

This prompted the then Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy to withdraw services from the terminal.

"Now, Namma Metro has solved the connectivity issue with services to Peenya and Jalahalli. It only takes 15 to 20 minutes from Majestic to Basaveshwara bus terminal," a KSRTC official told DH.

The official also said KSRTC has shifted some buses to Basaveshwara bus terminal and the fares on those buses have been slashed by Rs 10 or Rs 12.

The Corporation has also introduced two free shuttle bus services to ferry passengers from Ayyappa temple and the Jalahalli metro station to the bus terminal.
