Belagavi: A person who had been carrying Goan liquor in a tempo was arrested by the sleuths of the Excise Department near Kankumbi village in Khanapur taluk in the early hours of Saturday. Liqour worth Rs 1.16 lakh and vehicle worth Rs 6 lakh were seized and the person was arrested.
While checking of vehicles was being carried out near Kankumbi in wake of assembly elections, accused Babasaheb Bhikaji Aihole resident of Paithan in Aurangabad in Maharashtra was found carrying huge quantity of Goan liquor in his goods tempo when his vehicle was searched.
A total of 30 boxes of Indian made liquor and two boxes of Indian made beer in Goa worth Rs 1.6 lakh were seized. Vehicle worth Rs 6 lakh was also seized.
