City court directs probe against Bishop

Last Updated 03 May 2010, 19:37 IST

Sounder Rajan, a member of St Peters Church, Kolar Gold Fields and one of the constituent churches of the KCD had complained that Kumar diverted the funds of Bishop Cotton School to his personal account.

He alleged that the Bishop, his wife Nirmala Vasanth Kumar, Personal Assistant to the Bishop Aparna and Petricia Job indulged in several financial irregularities and misappropriated funds.

Denies explanation

The Bishop refused to offer an explanation, the complainant alleged. The Court directed the police to book a case against the Bishop and others and probe into the allegations.

‘False complaint’

The stand-off between the board of management and principal of the Bishop Cotton Boys’ School resumed on Monday with a board member accusing the latter and two others of “instigating” a man to lodge a “false” complaint with the police against him.

Terming as “baseless” the complaint lodged by A Rajagopal with Cubbon Park police which alleged that he had pocketed Rs one lakh with a “false” promise to provide admission to his grandson in the school, Samuel Rajashekar, member of the board of management, denied that he had ever received the sum.

“When Rajagopal approached me requesting help in getting admission for his grandson in the LKG, I told him that the whole process of admission is decided by the entire board of management. No individual member can interfere in admission process,” Rajashekar told Deccan Herald.

He also termed as “false” Rajagopal’s claim that he had paid Rs one lakh to him on March 3. “I state that he has filed a false complaint,” he added.

Series of conspiracies

Referring to a report about the above complaint published in this newspaper on April 30 (Rs one lakh pocketed, but no LKG seat), Rajashekar claimed that it was part of a series of conspiracies against the board of management by the boys’ school principal Col John Ellis, and his henchmen S Christopher and J M Richard.

“The principal had informed the media about his resignation complaining harassment without even submitting it to the board. Now, he says he has withdrawn it in the interests of students.  The complaint is a ploy to tarnish the good name of the school,” Rajashekar reiterated.
