<p> On May 5, there was no power in the evening. As the power was restored the pug’s condition started deteriorating. First, it had a bout of epilepsy for 15 minutes and later its stomach contracted, he recounted.<br /><br />But before this, Logesh had seen Ravi Nair, owner of a boarding kennel in Lingarajapuram who was sitting beside him placing something in the pug's mouth. <br /><br />Smelling something fishy, Logesh took the pregnant pug to Compassion Unlimited Plus Action (CUPA), an animal welfare organisation, where the canine was declared brought dead.<br /><br />The next day, a postmortem was conducted and on May 7 its report confirmed that the dog was administered with ‘highly toxic substance,’ Logesh informed the Deccan Herald. <br /><br />Logesh approached the Animal Welfare Association which directed him to inform the police. The police arrested Nair when he attempted to flee from his residence, Logesh said. <br /><br />According to Logesh, Nair is a lunatic and gained satisfaction by killing the canine. He alleged that Nair had also poisoned his other two dogs - a four-year-old adult Doberman and a six month-old baby Doberman in March and first week of April respectively. However, the baby Doberman recovered, he added.<br /><br />Later, it was found out that Nair had also allegedly poisoned 20 dogs belonging to other people. <br /><br />According to Logesh, he knew Nair since past ten months and allowed him to take care of his dogs when he went out of station. Kothanur police have booked a case against Nair, who was later released on bail.</p>
