Man held for killing neighbour's dog

On May 5, there was no power in the evening. As the power was restored the pug’s condition started deteriorating. First, it had a bout of epilepsy for 15 minutes and later its stomach contracted, he recounted.

But before this, Logesh had seen Ravi Nair, owner of a boarding kennel in Lingarajapuram who was sitting beside him placing something in the pug's mouth.

Smelling something fishy, Logesh took the pregnant pug to Compassion Unlimited Plus Action (CUPA), an animal welfare organisation, where the canine was declared brought dead.

The next day, a postmortem was conducted and on May 7 its report confirmed that the dog was administered with ‘highly toxic substance,’ Logesh informed the Deccan Herald.

Logesh approached the Animal Welfare Association which directed him to inform the police. The police arrested Nair when he attempted to flee from his residence, Logesh said.

According to Logesh, Nair is a lunatic and gained satisfaction by killing the canine. He alleged that Nair had also poisoned his other two dogs - a four-year-old adult Doberman and a six month-old baby Doberman in March and first week of April respectively. However, the baby Doberman recovered, he added.

Later, it was found out that Nair had also allegedly poisoned 20 dogs belonging to other people.

According to Logesh, he knew Nair since past ten months and allowed him to take care of his dogs when he went out of station. Kothanur police have booked a case against Nair, who was later released on bail.
