'Priority to old tenants in IG Road shopping complex'

 The decision was taken at general meeting convened by President H D Thammaiah on Thursday. Council Member Premkumar raising the issue said that the premises should be rented out giving preference to old tenants.

Majority of members backed the suggestion of Premkumar and following this, the Council has resolved to give priority to old tenants in the proposed new complex. A Council member demanded that all public wells in the 33rd Ward should be cleaned to find solution to drinking water crisis.

Meanwhile, another member Surekha Sampathraj questioned officials for withdrawing the building license issued for a site in Gourikaluve layout.

President Thammaiah assured that the issue has been discussed with the Commissioner. Action will be taken only after verifying documents, he added.

Members pointed out that the citizens are not relieved from the street dog menace, even though the Municipality had spent a huge amount to adopt measures.

Members Pushparaj, Kumaraswamy and Premkukar demanded that stalls should be provided to sell pork in the town.

Responding to the demand, Thammaiah assured that the vacant site near Petrol Bunk in the town will be levelled for selling pork.

Members brought to the notice of the Council that families belonging to SC/ST communities were not provided electricity in the town.

The contractor, who had obtained the contract to carry out work has stopped the work. The Council should serve notice to the contractor and take initiative to provide eletricity to SC/ST families by releasing fund directly, they demanded.

Officials disclosed that the Municipality had spent Rs 2.95 lakh for the celebration of Ambedkar Jayanthi in the town. Criticising the Council for spending huge amount for Ambedkar Jayanthi celebrations, Member Premkumar sought detailed information.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Krishnamoorthi clarified that the money was spent for Ambedkar Jayanthi programmes organised by various organisations.
