Speaking to media persons after visiting the families of several air crash victims in Kundapur and Udupi taluks, the minister said that he has been deputed to console the victims’ families by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, to whom he sends regular reports.

Muniappa directed the revenue heads of Taluks in both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts to be in constant touch with the families of victims of Saturday’s air crash and to actively involve in all relief measures. He also asked them to visit every victim’s house and console their families.

Muniappa said he has urged the expert team, that has taken the samples for DNA test, to give the results as early as possible so that the bodies could be handed over to their waiting families at the earliest and added that compensation will be given to legally deserving immediate relatives of the victims. District Congress President M A Gafoor, Congress leaders Pramodh Madhwaraj, Vasanth Saliyan and others were present.
