Garbage contract scam

Highlighting the issue, Jayamahal Corporator R Gunashekar told the Palike Council on Friday that the environment engineers, appointed by the BBMP officials to maintain cleanliness and greenery in the City, had recommended not to pay money to the contractor.  However, ignoring the recommendation, the Assistant Executive Engineer paid the money to the contractor.

Gunashekar stunned the House by saying that the contract, which was for three years, had expired three years back but still the contractor continued to ferry garbage and the Palike continued to pay up. Mayor S K Nataraj asked the Joint Commissioner of BBMP East Zone Heera Nayak for a reply.

Nayak then told the Council that he would check the matter and get back to the corporators but the corporators were adamant on the suspension of the Assistant Executive Engineer. The Mayor then directed Heera Nayak to bring all the facts relating to the issue
before the Council on Saturday.
