While the seat selection round for the engineering and architecture candidates have been postponed, the cascading effect is likely to be felt by these students.

KEA officials admitted that the academic year for the Medical colleges scheduled to begin on August 4, will definitely create a whole lot of problems for the students who wish to take a seat under the casual vacancy round which also has been postponed pending the seat matrix to be announced for the engineering and architecture streams.

“There is going to be a whole lot of confusion for the students who wish to take a medical seat in the casual vacancy round,” said a KEA official. The KEA authorities were hopeful that the government will step in to ease the problem by issuing directives to the medical colleges in the State to admit the students due to unforeseen circumstances that have cropped up in the CET counselling process.

Meanwhile, the Bangalore Medical College (BMC) authorities were adamant on the issue that there could be no possible delay in the start of the academic season for the year 2010-11.

“There cannot be any compromise on the beginning of the academic year due to the specification of the opening of colleges as stated in our guidelines,” noted BMC, Director and Dean, G T Subash. The BMC dean said that in case of delay, the college will be pushed against the wall as there will be another cascading effect impacting the other semester students enrolled in the college. In the dental stream, as many as 400 seats are yet to be taken up by students under the CET quota. A few more medical seats are expected to open up once the engineering seat selection is completed.
