On the great Indian middle class

It’s the scene in every household that’s captured in Hendtheera Darbar. The much-hyped movie will hit theatres across the City this Friday.  In this rather realistic movie, Hendtheera Darbar, actress Meena, who returned to Kannada industry after a hiatus is cast opposite Ramesh Aravind. Meena plays a middle-class wife, who exorcises every problem that comes her way. “It portrays the mental and emotional strength of a woman,” she said. What’s it like to be back? “I am doing a Kannada movie after a long time and I am thrilled to return to an industry that has its own identity and we’re seeing newer, unexplored themes being experimented upon in Kannada movies,” she says.

The movie portrays the ever persisting problems of the middle class. “With minimal salary, so many things need to be done and endless wishes need to be fulfiled. The film is relevant to the troubles faced by families in India today. It's a true slice of life,” Ramesh Aravind observes.

Financial crunches, soaring budgets and an ever demanding wife leaves this young man (played by Ramesh Aravind) in the lurch. The morally upright man is forced to compromise on his ethics to keep his wife (Meena) happy. The husband here is the non-glamourous, ordinary guy who seems content and pleased with his life but his wife is desirous of things way beyond the husband’s pocket power. “The story is about struggles, compromises, adjustments and sacrifices a husband and a wife have to make,” says Ramesh.

Talking about her character, Meena says she struggles to strike a balance between her endless wants and the finances. “People can relate to every character in the story. It’s almost real,” she sums up.
