Addressing a news conference on Thursday, he said that the Committee has told the Government that there are silent protests arising in the hearts of the people after continued attack on integrity and identity of Kodavas and the only way to wash away these silent riots is to declare Kodavas as linguistic minority tribe.

“Unesco has identified Kodava language as one of the 196 Indian languages, which are on the verge of dying. This a startling fact,” said Nachappa demanding constitutional measures to safeguard Kodava language, culture and traditions.

He said that the Committee has informed the Government that there is a need to start Kodava Cultural University on model of Nalanda University and this University must be set up at Yavakapadi village in Madikeri as per the suggestions of CNC.

Nachappa said that there is a need to replace the word ‘Kodagaru’ in official certificates with ‘Kodava’. This demand has been acknowledged by the Committee.

CNC Officials Prakash, Chippanna, Dinu, Sathya, Kalappa and others were present.
