Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of 131st annuaL meeting of Kodagu Coffee Growers Association here on Saturday, he said “it was irrigation expert G S Paramashivaiah who proposed the idea of Nethravathi river diversion. However, the proposal does not clearly mention on ‘Konganapole project.’

The government wanted the people of plateu region to make use of additional water from Kodagu. However, the government has been urged to drop the “Konganapole project,” he added

The government is yet to release Rs 15 lakh for a survey for the use of Nethravathi water, he added.

“Even MLAs from Dakshina Kannada have been opposing the river diversion project stating it as unscientific. Had the Session not adjourned, then there would have been another big fight over it in the Session. Though the government had decided to conduct a survey on ‘Konganapole project,’ in the past, now the government has decided not to implement the project,” he assured.

To a query on fire service station at Gonikoppa, he said that land has been earmarked at APMC premises. The work will commence soon. At the same time, Deputy Commissioner has earmarked land for the construction of District Complex at Central Workshop. Suvarna Samskrithika Samucchaya will be constructed near Sudarshana guest house,” he added.
