Beneficiaries abandon houses from Navagrama Colony

A tank constructed for residents of Navagrama Colony.

The Gram Panchayat had handed over houses to 2 Scheduled Tribe families, 4 Scheduled Caste families and 20 others in 2003. However, 13 houses are vacant and started dilapidating since families have quit the place.

Those beneficieries who were given title deeds included homeless and those who were living in reserve forests. It is learnt that all the 13 families have shifted to other places, where they have own houses. The Gram Panchayat had provided all basic facilities including water, electricity and road. However, only few houses have been provided with toilets.
Hence, many families are going for open defacation. Beneficiaries did not construct toilets, even after receiving money from the Gram Panchayat.

A major issue in the colony is that there is no crematorium. A family had constructed house on a site, which was allotted for crematorium.

Those vacant houses are on the verge of collapse due to lack of maintenance. People have urged the authorities concerned to repair the houses and hand it over to other deserved beneficiaries soon.
