The State Government, however on Friday tried to allay their fears by announcing an “extended session” of medical counselling at the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) office in Bangalore for 368 seats which have been made available by the MCI under the seat matrix.

Minister for Medical Education Ramachandra Gowda said, “We have received approval for 413 medical seats in four government medical colleges and one private college, of which we have parted with 15 per cent of seats to be filled by the Central Government entrance examination. Thus, the counselling for 368 medical seats will be conducted on July 26 and 27, along with the ongoing counselling sessions for engineering students.”

Better co-ordination

However, the counselling session will be held only at the KEA head office in Bangalore to ensure expediting seat selection process and better co-ordination, he added.

Besides, the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (Comed-K) will begin its counselling sessions on July 27. “We have decided to conduct this extended session to ensure a fair chance of getting a seat under the CET quota for the candidates,” the minister said.

The candidates aspiring for the engineering seats as well can attend the counselling sessions in Bangalore if their dates for medical and counselling sessions clash. Arrangements are made for these candidates to have their engineering and medical counsellings on the same day, he added.

The medical counselling from ranks one to 2,000 will be held on July 26 and from ranks 2001 till the end, on July 27.

Number of seats available under the CET quota in each of the five approved medical colleges:

- Government Medical College, Bidar: 85
- Government Medical College, Raichur: 85
- Government Medical College, Shimoga: 85
- Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences: 50
- Private Medical College, Davangere: 63
