However, the ace Bengal cricketer returning with wife Dona and daughter Sana from a dinner at Park Street late last night were not harmed, his driver said on Sunday.
A youth was killed in an accident near Behala Chourasta here resulting in a protest by locals, police said.
The incident happened around 11.30 pm when Ganguly's car was about to enter a lane leading to his house.
"A huge crowd had gathered to protest the death and his BMW got stuck. When our security guard tried to disperse the mob, he was roughed up," the driver said.
"But when the mob got to know that it was Ganguly with his family inside the car, they apologised and backed off immediately," he said.
