The protesters who blocked traffic at New Bus Stand Circle alleged that the hike has become a burden for the students hailing from poor families in rural parts.

Demanding immediate roll back of the hike, the protesters insisted that the Divisional Controller of KSRTC should come to the spot.

The efforts by the police to pacify the agitators went in vain. They withdrew their protest after an official from the KSRTC came to the spot and accepted the memorandum. He said he would bring the matter to the notice of higher authorities. Gurunath Rajagir, Chandru, Shivakumar and took part in the protest.

Protest march

The ABVP members took out a protest march in Bagepalli strongly opposing the hike effected by Bangalore University in examination fee.

Addressing the protesters, City unit secretary B A Bhaskar said the University has been increasing the fee “unscientifically” every year and neither the government nor the University has heeded to the pleas of students’ community so far.

The students in rural parts have been greatly affected by the hike.  Escalated cost of living has made life made miserable and the hike in fee has further aggravated the problems.

The students demanded basic infrastructure to Government Degree College; increase the intake to backward classes’ hostels and construct separate rest rooms  for girls in colleges.

S N Babu, Abdul, Ashok and others took part in the protest. Traffic came to standstill for about one hour as the protesters blocked vehicular movement.
