Janata Dal (S) reinvents itself

The official declaration in this regard was made by noted socialist and Jnanpith award winner U R Ananthamurthy at a function at Thekkinkad maidan in Thrissur.

 Speaking after accepting the party flag from Ananthamurthy, Veerendrakumar said the main aim of the new party was to reunite all socialists on a secular platform. He said socialism was not an outdated philosophy but its relevance had only increased in the changed times. The party would mobilise the people against “corporate forces that exploit natural resources.” 

The name-change assumes relevance in the backdrop of the exit of the JD(S) from the ruling LDF and entry into the Opposition UDF.
