Ear-deafening applause from the students welcomed the chief guest M D Karvekar, Vice-President, IPA, Karnataka. Prof T V  Narayana, Chairman Education Division, IPA and A R Hegde, Innova Pharma Consultants; Chairman of the College Dr A C Sreeram, and College Principal Dr Shivakumar Swamy were present on the occasion.

The programme received an overwhelming response even from the parents of the students who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the function. Principal Dr Shivakumar Swamy presented the college report and thanked the management, staff and students for securing good percentage of results in the university examination. H S Keerthy welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering.

M D Karvekar said there were abundant opportunities for youngsters in pharma industry and  steps are being taken in bringing out practicing pharmacists who can throw light on some of the emerging health care problems. A D Hegde said, “Every pharmacist should take this as a challenge and come out with new ideas in research and development. This would pave the way for a new era in pharma industry.” He elaborated the growth of Indian pharmaceutical Industry for the past 50 years.

He explained the methods for identifying and curbing spurious drugs in the market. He also suggested apex bodies to introduce a additional course for the same, which will create a new avenue for the profession. T V Narayana stated that emerging pharmacists in India have the potential to compete with the world, provided there is effective utilisation of innovative equipment, manpower, and mobilisation of resources.

He advised young pharmacists to provide useful information about drugs to the community. A C Sreeram, in his presidential remarks, advised the students to make use of the facilities available in the college and bring good name to the institution and profession. Later, prizes were distributed to the meritorious students for their academic performances, cultural competitions and sports competitions. Colourful and mind-blowing cultural events were performed by the students.
