Reports said the militants equipped with automatic weapons and grenades targeted Sopore police station, CID office and a protected person. In the shootout, three police men were killed.
“Reinforcement of police and security forces was rushed to the affected area, which has been cordoned off,” said a police official. The attack on police came hours after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his statement directed the state government to take due care of police men and their families in the ongoing unrest and keep their morale high.
