When the hillock caved in owing to the heavy rains coupled with strong wind, more than 50 acre fertile agriculture land along with some houses were badly affected.

Even after two years of the incident, the victims are yet to get compensation from the government. One thousand arecanut trees belonging to Domba Gowda of Ittadi were razed to the ground. In fact, he was producing 10 quintal arecanut in a year. He has also lost 50 coconut trees. The remaining coconut trees have become dry. Weeds have grown in the land. The estate is filled with clay and sand and Domba Gowda is waiting for the compensation from the government.

Similarly, the estate of Krishnappa Gowda with 250 arecanut trees have been filled with clay. About 150 arecanut trees and 10 coconut trees of Lokayya Gowda went missing after August 13, 2008. As many as 65 arecanut trees of Janardhan Shetty, 100 arecanut trees of Mohammed Beary, 150 arecanut trees Narayana Gowda and Rukmaiah Gowda have gone missing.  The elected representatives, MP, MLA and officials had visited the spot and assured of help. However, the assurances remained only on paper. In fact, special committee formed by the State and Central Government too visited the spot and assured of all help.

The SKDRDP had paid Rs 10,000, ZP—Rs 4,000 and Tahsildar—Rs 3,600 as compensation.
