The duo fell down when Mahesh did not notice a road hump that has been put on Lalitha Mahal Palace - T Narasipura road. They had a narrow escape as a sand laden truck just passed through that road from a close distance. She has fractured her legs.

Lokesh, a truck driver working with a private contractor, was transporting sand on his truck. When he applied the brake near the road humps, the axle plates broke down and the vehicle could not move further.

Such incidents are common on this stretch of road thanks to road humps that have been put up unscientifically by authorities concerned. Steady increase in number of vehicles has resulted in traffic congestion and mishaps regularly.

The police have put up three road humps. One near diversion road connecting helipad, other at road connecting Siddharathanagar layout near Arch Gate  and another at the  entrance road of Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel. These places are identified as accident-prone.

According to the statistics, as many as 28 persons have died and 120 persons have been injured in road mishaps occurred on this stretch of road in the last ten years.  Majority of the injured and died persons are motorists and pedestrians.

Busy road

This  is a busy road after Nanjangud -Ooty road due to heavy traffic. A number of important offices are located on this road. Besides, thousands of private vehicles ply on this road.

Mallesh of Siddarthanagar told Deccan Herald that though construction of road hump put by officials is a good move to check overspeeding of vehicles. But at the sametime it is causing problems as they are built in most unscientific manner.

A big pot hole has appeared within few weeks of construction of road humps. Several two wheeler riders fall and injure themselves in this pot hole especially during rainy season.

The police should paint these humps with yellow or white colour for enabling drivers to see them from a safe distance. Even sign boards are not put by the authorities concerned.
