Shift garbage sorting point elsewhere: Residents urge

 Though the area boasts of houses belonging to former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and City’s In-charge Minister R Ashok, this has not brought any relief to the residents’ woes.

The Padmanabha Nagar 18th main road that connects to Uttarahalli has earned the tag ‘Gabbunatha Street.’ Cows and dogs are often seen rummaging the piles of garbage. Since there are no public toilets in and around the area, the Gate point has been converted into a public toilet. Residents say, after the daily sorting operations are completed, animals are seen rummaging the leftovers. Horrible stench emanates from this spot making it unbearable for the people who walk here. Senior citizens, schoolchildren and patients living in the vicinity are at the receiving end.

The South Padmanabha Nagar Welfare Association has demanded the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike to shift the garbage sorting operation elsewhere. It can be held in a field across the same road, they opine. The residents are apprehensive that garbage heap might lead to epidemics like dengue, malaria, chikungunya and even plague.
