Water level in Yamuna river receding

Last Updated 13 September 2010, 07:19 IST

The water level has come down to 205.39 metres this morning which is still 56 cm above the danger mark of 204.83 metres, said a senior official of the flood control department.

He said the water level may go up by tomorrow as Haryana released 1.5 lakh cusecs of water this morning. The neighbouring state has already released nearly 10.5 lakh cusecs of water into Yamuna in last five days resulting in rise in its level.

Though the water level has come down, nearly 4000 people from low lying areas are still staying in several relief camps set up by Delhi Government.

The Old Yamuna Bridge which was shut for road and rail traffic on Friday when the water level rose dangerously, was opened for rail traffic at 8 pm last night.

Due to the closure of the bridge, 25 trains were cancelled, 41 were terminated or originated short of destination while 36 trains were diverted today, he said.
