Bopaiah urged to solve baane land problem

Last Updated 14 September 2010, 07:52 IST

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, he said that Akhila Kodava Samaja President Mathanda Monnappa, MLC M C Nanaiah, Cauvery Sene office-bearers are making irrelevant and unnecessary statements over baane, which are all far from truth.

He said that Bopaiah had already announced that permanent solution will be worked out for the baane row. “In Kodagu, there is a problem over baane and not jamma. There is no proposal before the government to cancel jamma rights,” he clarified and said that Bopaiah’s move of convening a meeting of Revenue department Secretary to solve the problems related to baane is commendable.

“Being a resident of Kodagu, why should Bopaiah ask for the cancellation of baane rights?
There was no row over jamma after the implementation of 1964 Revenue Act. Jamma rights were given to the people by kings and right to possess weapons was given by the British. Hence, there was no connection between jamma, culture and tradition of Kodagu,” Subbaiah said.

“I am ready for an open discussion on baane issue. There is a need to start a campaign against those who are trying to create confusion over baane issue,” he warned.

Coffee grower Cheranda Nanda Subbaiah, ZP members V P Shashidhar and others were present.
