An erudite translator

Dr Lakshminarayana Bhat, one of the four translators and the only one from Dakshina Kannada, is a professor and registrar of the autonomous ‘Roshni Nilaya.’

Dr L N Bhat or Dr LNB as he is affectionately referred to, in the academic circles of the city, is an intense, unassuming, down to earth educator who quietly sets the highest standards for himself, his students and associates. 

His life he says ‘has always been full of struggles and survival’. The main elements are persistent perseverance ‘Prayatna’ and ‘Prarthana’. “I have always been fascinated by languages and English has a special place. Dr C N Ramachandran, Emeritus Professor of English, Mangalore University is my friend, philosopher, and guide in every sense,” he says.  
Admire LNB’s achievements and he will tell you, ‘Vidyaturanam Na Sukham Na Nidra’ - He who thirsts for knowledge has neither comforts nor rest. Mangalore is fortunate to have such industrious and gifted academicians. Mahatma Gandhi always said the true textbook for a pupil is his teacher; with Professor Bhat it becomes evident.

Dr Bhat, has authored several books and translations in the last decade. He has presented several papers, served as a resource person at many literary seminars and conferences.

‘Vasudhiva Kutumbakam - the whole world is one family’, this scholar’s family and his outlook on life and work, is living proof to this philosophy. It should not be that such Gurus and people who work for the good should be forgotten, such contributors to the well being of society are to be enshrined in lives and hearts.

Mangalore, historically a hub of religiosity and culture is fortunate to have even today lofty minds in the service of the society bringing goodness to our ancient land called ‘Tulunadu’.
