The highest auction for a laddu was at Ameerpet where it fetched a record sum of Rs 6.5 lakh. The famous Balapur Ganesh laddu was bought for Rs 5.35 lakh by B Sridhar, a resident of Miyapur, said Niranjan Reddy, Chairman of Balapur Ganesh Utsava Committee.
The Balapur laddu, weighing about 21 kg at the Ganesh pandal at Balapur village on the city outskirts, fetched Rs 25,000 more of last year's figure. The tradition of auctioning of Balapur Ganesh laddu began in the year 1994.
It is believed that Balapur Ganesh laddu would bring good luck and prosperity for the person who wins the auction. Another laddu was auctioned for Rs 2.85 lakh at Ramnagar locality in the city here.
