'Parivartan 2010' set to bring cultural metamorphosis

Last Updated 24 September 2010, 16:47 IST

M edicos are gearing up for ‘Parivartan 2010’ a three day cultural extravaganza organised by Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC and RI) from September 29 to October 1. Be it at college or hostel, for both boys and girls, the event has remained hot topic since three months, ever since the preparations were launched.

The event promises to be different this year with the first State-level inter-collegiate fest being held after Mysore Medical College becoming autonomous, besides getting a suffix of ‘Research Institute’. The state-level inter-collegiate fest that was held four years ago was a big hit with numerous colleges participating.

This year too, an array of 32 events have been planned. Among them four new competitions- movie making, harry potter quiz, ikebana-flower arrangement and photo marathon have been added, Preetham Philip Tauro, one of the co-ordinators of the organising committee told City Herald.  The fest proves to be the perfect stage to encourage budding talents who are otherwise found engrossed in studies. Choreomania- group dance enables the medicos to try their hands on shaking legs, besides exhibiting their talents in ‘dumbstruck- mime show’, ‘crypto-general quiz-, ‘gana bajana- Kannada antakshari’, ‘step up-solo dance’, ‘say it pronto-extempore’, ‘create ‘n’ greet- greeting card making’, ‘skizze- pictionary’, ‘matak-kali- pot painting’ on day one.

How can one forget to set the stage on fire to rake oomph with fashion show.
The day two of the fest will see ‘Debonair- fashion show’, ‘spoof ‘n’ goof’, ‘symphony-group singing (Indian)’, ‘take-1 movie making’, ‘aphasix- dumb charades’, ‘the flipside- debate’, ‘cut-clue paste- collage’, ‘tick-tock- 90 seconds’, ‘pen the pent up- creative writing’ ‘word play- poetry’, ‘photo marathon’, ‘expressions-face painting’ and ‘mind maze- crossword’ on the second day.

For those having taste for rocking, ‘strum ‘n’ drum- rock band’ a contest that has already five teams registered will be the perfect treat on the final day. Besides, ‘smart act- skit’, ‘jugalbandi- hindi anthakshari’, ‘potter mania- harry potter quiz’, ‘war of words- just a min’, ‘impersonata- mock press’, ‘solo singing- serenade (western) sargam (Indian), ‘varna- painting’, ‘grey shades- pencil sketching’ and ‘Ikebana- flower arrangement’ include other attractions.

“Prize money worth about Rs one lakh will be awarded and the total expenditure has been anticipated at Rs five lakh. While half of the funds will be borne by MMC and RI, the remaining will be from the sponsors”, Preetham said.

Already 30 colleges have evinced interest and 10 among them have confirmed their participation. In Mysore, apart from medical colleges, the fest is open for engineering colleges too, said Dr M Rajesh.

Slogan for the fest is aptly named ‘experience the metamorphosis’ and it will be dear to the students of 2007 batch, who are working hard for the success of the fest. They call themselves as ‘2K7’.

State Bank of Mysore is the main sponsor and ‘scirocco’ is the co-sponsor. ‘Purple inn’ is the hospitality partner, Deccan Herald and Prajavani print partners, Red FM 93.5 radio partner and mandovi another sponsor.
