Curtains down on Mahamastakabhisheka

With the offering of ‘Kumkumotsava’, ‘Kankana Visarjane’ and ‘Torana Visarjane’, the Mahamastakabhisheka of Bhagavan Bahubali at Ratnagiri in Dharmasthala was completed on Monday evening.

Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade and his family members initiated the anointing ceremony with 1,008 kalashas.

As the statue of Bahubali took different hues – including yellow, purple and red–with each abhisheka, the people who had gathered were soaked in devotional fervour.

Various offerings

After ‘Jalabhisheka’, Srinivas Shetty and family from Belthangady offered ‘Ikshurasa Abhisheka’; Sunandadevi of Venur offered ‘Ksheerabhisheka’; Dharanendrayya of Kalasa offered ‘Kalkachoorna Abhisheka’; Shreshtha Jain of Bengaluru offered ‘Kashaya Abhisheka’; M S Mrityunjaya of Bengaluru offered ‘Kesari Abhisheka’; Ratnakar Jain of Mangaluru, Manmatha Kumar of Nellikaru, Sohal Lal Jain of Bengaluru and Pankaj Jain of Hubballi offered ‘Chathushkona Abhisheka’; Shashikiran Jain and Saroja Gunapal Jain offered ‘Chandana Abhisheka’.

Pushpadanda Sagar Muni Maharaj, delivering a discourse, said, “All of us should adopt the principles of non-violence, sacrifice and austerity of Bahubali in our lives.”

DKMUL sponsored 5,000 litres of buttermilk to the devotees. Chowgule of Belagavi and Jayasri of Horanadu sang Jain devotional songs.

Veerendra Heggade told reporters that, following demands from many organisations, the anointing will continue up to March this year.
