Demanding the withdrawal of Karnataka State Universities (Amendment) Bill 2017, the members of ABVP staged a protest in Chikkamagaluru on Tuesday.

The activists took out a protest march till Hanumanthappa Circle from taluk office premises.

They alleged that the state government is attempting to implement the bill without discussing it with the educationists and experts.

The Karnataka State Universities (Amendment) Bill is against UGC guidelines. The bill has been passed in a hurry, they alleged.

The activists further said that there are several confusions in the bill. After withdrawing the bill, a comprehensive policy should be framed. The governor who is also the chancellor for state universities should reject the bill.

The ABVP activists urged the state government to fill the vacant posts in universities.
