Shettar files papers, declares Rs 11.52 cr assets

Though the value of Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar’s assets increased by around 250% in last five years, and the market value of his assets has reached Rs 11.52 crore, he still lacks an own vehicle, while there is no vehicle owned by his wife too.

In the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission along with his nomination to contest the Assembly elections from Hubballi-Dharwad Central constituency on the BJP ticket, Mr Shettar has declared that he has movable assets worth Rs 2.01 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 9.51 crore, making the total market value of his assets Rs 11.52 crore. Assets owned by his wife Shilpa Shettar are worth Rs 73.85 lakh.

Interestingly, Mr Shettar has given Rs 1.51 crore loan to his family members, including Rs 52.85 lakh to his son Prashanth Shettar, Rs 35.25 lakh to his brother Mohan Shettar, Rs 13.64 lakh to Shilpa Shettar, and Rs 50.11 lakh to another son Sankalp Shettar.

Shilpa Shettar has also given Rs five lakh loan to her sons.

Mr Shettar has Rs 12.21 lakh deposits, Rs 1.69 lakh in bonds and shares, Rs 10.26 lakh in insurance policies, and ornaments worth Rs 20.59 lakh.

When Mr Shettar has 20% ownership of ancestral farming land of three acres at Chavaragudda. Shilpa Shettar is the owner of more than 20 acres of agricultural land at Arekurahatti and Aihole.

Site, houses, and commercial properties are also in Mr Shettar’s name. He has Rs 2.01 crore liabilities, including Rs 15 lakh each borrowed from Shankar Patil Munenakoppa and P C Mohan.

In the income tax details, Mr Shettar has shown Rs 14.59 lakh income in 2016-17. Salary, rent, and agriculture are his income sources, as per the affidavit.

In 2013, Mr Shettar total assets were worth Rs 4.44 crore, along with 18.97 lakh liabilities, and his income in 2011-12 was Rs 2.64 lakh.

Prasad’s assets

Sitting MLA and Congress candidate for Hubballi-Dharwad East constituency Prasad Abbayya has assets worth Rs 2.46 crore, and he has Rs 51.59 lakh liabilities.

He has a car and a scooter. His family members have assets worth Rs 1.14 crore, and liabilities of Rs 12.65 lakh, according to the affidavit.

In 2013, Mr Prasad’s assets were was worth Rs 1.26 crore, and he had no liabilities. His income was Rs 5.62 lakh in 2011-12, and it was Rs 14.16 lakh in 2016-17.
