Dejected over the attitude of the Congress towards the Yettinahole and other issues bothering the district, Nethravathi Samyuktha Rakshana Horata Samithi convener Shashiraj Shetty Kolambe has decided to join the BJP.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, he said that he has been working in the Congress for over 20 years, his parents were also in Congress. During a meeting with the chief minister on Yettinahole project, Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai insulted the protesters. Even veteran Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary had been accused of rampant corruption in the project. The Congress leaders in the district have failed to respond to the woes of the people of the district with regard to Yettinahole, he said.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has protested against the Yettinahole project and promised to review the issue if the BJP comes to power in Karnataka, he said.

Stating that the Congress has failed to restore peace in the district, Kolambe said that even the minority communities have realised that the Congress is using them for political gain. To restore peace, even the minority community leaders are joining the BJP.

Kolambe said former Surathkal (present Mangaluru North) MLA Vijay Kumar Shetty was insulted during AICC president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Mangaluru. He was not allowed to enter the meeting. Shetty will make his stand clear within a day or two.
