<p>Two new languages, Kannada and Oriya, are being included for the first time this year, adding to the already existing English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil and Marathi editions. The theme for this year’s competition is based on reducing poverty in the country, and young minds will be encouraged to express their thoughts on the solutions to this issue.<br /><br />Started in 2006 as an English-language essay contest, the Tata Building India School Essay Competition is organised every year to motivate and nurture young minds across India and encourage them to think on the lines of nation building. <br />The 2010-11 competition has started from key metros and will be conducted across the country from Jammu to Tirunelveli and Guwahati to Kutch. <br /><br />The Tata Building India School Essay Competition will be a two-phase activity in the participating schools. The first phase consists of the screening of an inspirational film as stimulus for the young minds, to get them thinking and to bring a greater focus to the subject. As part of this stimulus one of two Tata-themed documentary films will be screened at the schools. Following the screenings, students will be asked to write an essay on a topic of nation building. <br /><br />Judging process<br /><br />The judging process of the competition involves screening at three levels:<br /><br />*Entries will first be shortlisted at the individual school level, with winners being selected through an independent judging process.<br /><br />*The winning essays of the school level will be collected and evaluated by an independent panel of three judges for city-level recognition.<br /><br />*The best essays from each city will finally be judged by a panel comprising eminent personalities to choose the national winners.<br /><br />Prizes<br /><br />Prizes at the school level include certificates, trophies and special Tata Building India merchandise. The city winners and the runners-up will receive video cameras / digital cameras and will be felicitated at regional award ceremonies. The national winners will receive a laptop each as grand prize.
