For very long now, the United States has been the preferred destination for most Indian students. Every year, top universities from around the world visit India to attract our students with the opportunities they offer. Students from India are in high demand. They not only pay higher fees than local students, but are also hardworking, responsible, disciplined and well-behaved. Our students make significant contributions to research and innovation, and many go on to become job creators.
.
Indian students contribute billions of dollars each year to the U.S economy by way of tuition fees, accommodations, transportation, food and other incidentals like books, clothes, accessories etc. Not only do Universities benefit from our students, but businesses like real estate companies that rent accommodation to students, as well as restaurants and shops, also do.
.
The pause effect
.
Students’ social media checks have been taking place for years as part of the US visa process. The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, commonly known as SEVIS, is a U.S. government database used to track and maintain information on international students and exchange visitors. This is nothing new. Indian students have nothing to fear here. Despite the motives behind this step, I advise students to refrain from posting anything controversial or irresponsible on their social media sites.
.
As for the pause on visa dates, most of our students heading to the US would have received their visas by now. If you have yet to apply for your F1 visa and can’t find an available slot, look for alternative options. The good news is that applications to the UK are still open for the Fall 2025 semester.
.
Keep in mind one thing: Universities need you more than you need them. So don’t stress out about anything. Many universities are waiting for you to join them. If the current scenario in the US is not friendly towards international students, countries like the UK, New Zealand, Australia and Europe are welcoming international students. In the US, too, the situation is expected to change soon. They have way too many universities that are dependent on international students.
.
Universities’ assurance to students
.
Universities in the U.S are all united in their demand that international students be allowed to join their universities. They assure us that there is no need to panic and that the safety of our students is their top priority.
.
If you decide to go abroad, regardless of the country, please remember that you are required to maintain 100% attendance. Avoid any problems with the authorities by avoiding traffic violations or drunken episodes. These will not be treated lightly. Your focus should be on the broader perspective of obtaining an education from a world-class university. Studying in a new country, meeting people from diverse parts of the world, learning about different cultures, interacting with a vibrant and eclectic community, and gaining practical exposure alongside traditional classroom lessons.
.
The entire ‘Study Abroad’ experience will make you independent, responsible, tolerant, and accepting of all kinds of people you encounter, and you will develop a global perspective on every issue. Continue to stay positive and excited about your plans to attend the US, UK, Germany, or any other country to pursue your higher education.
