Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024: Ahead of polls, journalist-turned-politician Kapil Patil joins Congress

Patil may contest the upcoming polls from Mumbai.

Mumbai: Journalist-turned-politician Kapil Patil, a former MLC who was associated with the Socialist movement, has joined the Congress.

Patil met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, and joined the grand old party.

Patil may contest upcoming assembly polls from Mumbai.

“All progressive forces need to come together to fight against Nathurami-Fascism. In this situation, we have decided to come into the mainstream to strengthen the position taken by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi,” said Patil.

During his induction to the Congress, top Maharashtra leaders including state Congress President Nana Patole, Leader of the Opposition in Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar, Mumbai Congress President Prof Varsha Gaikwad, senior leader Sunil Kedar, Congress group leader in Council Satej Bunty Patil were present.

AICC general secretary in-charge of Maharashtra was also present on the occasion.

Patil was earlier associated with Janata Dal (United) led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. However, he left the JD (U) and formed the Samajwadi Ganrajya Party. Now, he has entered Congress.

Maharashtra will vote in a single phase on November 20 and results will be declared on November 23.
