Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 | Shrikant Shinde dismisses speculation about him getting deputy CM's post

Mumbai: Quashing reports he was keen to take up the job of Shiv Sena’s Deputy Chief Minister in the new MahaYuti government in Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde’s son Dr Shrikant Shinde said he did not take up a ministry in the Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre after Lok Sabha polls as he wanted to work for the party.

Thirty-seven-year-old Dr Shrikant Shinde, an orthopaedic surgeon, is a three-time Kalyan MP of the Shiv Sena.

Ever since the results of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly came out, his name was doing rounds for the No. 2 position in the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP dispensation.

Asked about this on Sunday, Shinde, who is now the caretaker CM, said: “All these are in the media…the MahaYuti allies - BJP, NCP, and Shiv Sena will sit together and will decide the government formation through consensus.”

A day later, Dr Shrikant Shinde, who is the leader of the Shiv Sena parliamentary party, took to X and clarified his position on the issue.

"The news that I will be the Deputy Chief Minister has been circulating with question marks for the past two days. There is no truth to this, and all such news are baseless," said Dr Shrikant Shinde.

He made it clear that he is not planning to take any ministerial position in the state or in the Centre and said that he is willing to work for the party.

“Even after the Lok Sabha elections, I had a chance to become a minister in the central government. But thinking of working for the party organization, I refused the ministerial post even then. I have no desire for a position in power. I make it clear once again that I am not in the race for any ministerial position in the state,” said Dr Shrikant Shinde.
