Naga political talk will soon end with positive solution: Nagaland CM

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday expressed his hope that the Naga political dialogue would soon end with a positive solution.

After casting his vote at Tuophema polling station in Kohima district, he said that it is very encouraging that NSCN-IM and the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) earlier issued a joint declaration that they would strive forward to expedite the Naga peace talks with the central government.

Eight other Naga armed groups a few years back came together under the banner of NNPG.

Tension in Bhandari after incidents of stone pelting, blank firing; polling halted briefly after violence at Alongtaki voting centres

Stone pelting and blank firing caused tension in the Bhandari assembly constituency in Wokha district.Police said the violence was done by NPF supporters, however, the party denied such allegations.

Meanwhile, violence was reported in Alongtaki of Mocokchung district of Nagaland. The voting in the area was stalled as supporter pelted stones at the voting centers.

Over 38.68% voter turnout reported till 12 noon in Nagaland.

Over 12% voter turnout recorded till 9 am in Nagaland Assembly polls

A voter turnout of over 12 per cent was recorded in the Nagaland Assembly elections till 9 am on Monday with the polling process being peaceful in the first two hours, an official said.

Voting began at 7 am with over 13 lakh electors set to decide the electoral fate of 183 candidates.

“Polling percentage is 12.19 per cent till 9 am. Voting is peaceful as of now,” the Election Commission official said.(PTI)

Give change a chance: Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge to voters

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday urged the people of Meghalaya and Nagaland to give change a chance as polling in the two northeast states was underway.

"People of Meghalaya and Nagaland are looking towards progressive, welfare-oriented governments," Kharge said in a tweet.

"Welcome our first time voters to participate in this democratic process for a better future. Urge our sisters and brothers of Meghalaya and Nagaland to give change a chance," he said.

The election officials said that no untoward incident has been reported so far from any of the 59 constituencies.

Upon entering the polling booth, one will find three polling officers seated next to one another.

1. First, one has to go to the left-most polling officer for identity verification. One has to show a Voter ID or any other valid document to complete theverification.

2. Then one has to head towards the second officer to get the finger marked with indelible ink for casting the vote.

3. The third step requires one to reach the last officer who takes the signature or thumbprint to cross the voter's name off the electoral roll.

Neiphiu Rio: Nagaland's longest-serving Chief Minister

Three-time Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio has been announced as the CM face of the BJP-NDPP alliance in the upcoming Assembly election.
