In the seventh phase of the Assembly elections in West Bengal, 34 seats in the districts of Murshidabad (9), West Bardhaman (9), South Dinajpur (6), Malda (6), Kolkata (4) went to polls on Monday. Meanwhile, the poll-pound state on Sunday registered its highest single-day spike of 15,889 Covid-19 cases pushing the tally to 7,43,950, the bulletin issued by the state health department said.

Nadda accuses Mamata of misleading people on Covid vaccination

BJP president J P Nadda Monday accused Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee of misleading people of West Bengal on various issues, ranging from "insider-outsider" to Covid vaccination during the campaigning for the assembly elections in the state.

Nadda also asserted his party had upheld the culture and legacy of Bengal as against the insulting language adopted by Banerjee against the BJP leadership.

"During the campaign for the eight-phase elections, which comes to an end on Monday, Mamata Banerjee has made all efforts to mislead the people of Bengal and to instigate them using issues like insider-outsider and culture," he said addressing a virtual public meeting. (PTI)

Agnimitra Paul, BJP candidate from Asansol Dakshin Assembly constituency in Paschim Bardhaman, has said that a TMC polling agent was wearing a cap with CM's photo on it, at polling booth in Baktarnagar High School. She claims that the presiding officer said he was unwell and did not see that. (ANI)

TMC has alleged that in booth 212 ofDurgapur Purba, BJP workers are influencing voters outside the booth andCRPF and police are standing idle.

In booth 104 ofPaschim Bardhaman, CRPF personnel are asking for booth slips and not letting people cast vote despite them having voter ID cards.

In booth 163 ofMalda, BJP workers have allegedly jammed the way towards polling station and are holding lathis, threatening the locals.

Polling begins for seventh phase of West Bengal assembly elections

Polling began at 7 am on Monday for 34 seats in the seventh phase of the assembly elections in West Bengal, amid tight security and a rampaging second wave of Covid-19.

Long queues were seen outside most polling booths where voting is underway adhering to Covid protocols.

Over 86 lakh voters will decide the political fate of 284 candidates in this phase.

Mamata's allegations of plans to act against TMC workers false: EC

A day after Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee alleged there were plans to detain her party workers ahead of voting in West Bengal at the instance of poll observers, the Election Commission said no instructions have been issued by any of its officers or observers to act against workers of any political party.
