Sandalwood actor Darshan's latest movie Roberrt opened to a thunderous response at the box office on Thursday (March 11), grossing Rs 17.24 crore on day 1. It continued its dream run on Friday, remaining the choice of the masses. According to several reports, the day 2 collection is around Rs 13 crore. The film has done exceptionally well in 'B' and 'C' centres, which proves that Darshan is the undisputed 'Boss' of the Kannada film industry.

The general perception is that the film has exceeded expectations as it is a total commercial entertainer with plenty of commercial elements. It has shades of the yesteryear classic Baashha, which has piqued the curiosity of the janta. The catchy songs too have worked in the film's favour.

Roberrt comes at a time when the Kannada film industry is returning to normal after the Covid-19 pandemic. The Dhruva Sarja-starrer Pogaru opened to a good response at the box office despite receiving negative reviews. The film had garnered a fair deal of attention because of the 'sexist' Karabuu song.

Roberrt might help Sandalwood return to the 'good old days' if it emerges as a blockbuster. The actioner has received favourable reviews with fans praising the paisa vasool storyline and Darshan's performance. The word of mouth is positive, which is likely to help the biggie stay strong in the coming days.

The box office performance of Pogaru and Roberrt indicates things are set to return to normal, which is good news for upcoming films such as Phantom/Vikrant Rona and KGF Chapter 2.

Darshan, meanwhile, is expected to resume work on his magnum opus Raja Veera Madakari Nayaka, a period drama that revolves around the journey of a braveheart. The biggie is being directed by S V Rajendra Singh Babu and will be produced by Rockline Venkatesh.

Veteran actor Sumalatha is reportedly a part of the cast. The film has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and one is likely to get clarity on the revised schedule in the near future. The 'Challenging Star' also has an action-packed masala movie in his kitty.
