Revenge is tedious

Last Updated 09 April 2010, 17:27 IST

Two films with a similar theme–revenge–released within a couple of weeks -‘Satya’ and now, ‘Parole’. The former began well only to go down nary a murmur, with an apology of a story.

‘Parole’ benefits from B A Madhu’s staple dialogues and some cool acting by Kishore. ‘Parole’ tells the tale of a father who avenges the deaths of his sons at the hands of four youths.
Like in ‘Satya’, the first half manages to retain audience attention with its crisp narration and competent acting, but by interval, the film’s fate is a foregone conclusion. And, here is where the similarities between the two films end.

The flashback portion is executed well with some restraint. The execution of a song featuring Pradeep, Suresh and Prathibha Rani is noteworthy. However, the spoilers are many. Suresh seems to have forgotten the difference between dramatic and cinematic acting. As such, his dialogue delivery robs the scenes their emotional content and subjects him to ridicule.

Still, his eyes do convey a message of their own. The women-Prathibha Rani, Amulya, Supritha and others- in the film have little to do.

Suresh Urs’ scissors in damage-control mode also stifle their voice. The boys all impress though Pradeep has to catch up.

A little more attention on the nitty-gritty –writs are not filed to get convicts undergoing their sentence, released -would have made the film more attractive.
