I'd like to thank DH for publishing this weekly column. There is a girl in my apartment who is 18-years-old and her aunt is my mom's friend. I don't even know about her properly. Sometimes I see her on the stairs and she smiles at me and says, ‘Hi’. I reply ‘Hi’ and I start concentrating on my work. Sometimes she asks for novels and some comics so that she can read. I really wanna know what's going on. Help me.

You are welcome. There’s a six-letter word which spells, ‘friend’. If you aren’t familiar with it, it is where members of the human species say ‘hi’, borrow books, swap recipes, personal details, etc. All that’s going on is that she is saying hi and asking to borrow books. If you want something more to go on, you will have to do more than just concentrate on your work.

I had a boyfriend but I broke up with him because he is only asking for sex and this is not allowed in our family. Now I am confused. Did I make the right decision or the wrong one? After all, he asked me honestly what he wanted from me. Saheli, please suggest what I need to do?

Sexuse me? I don’t think sex is not allowed in your family for then, there won’t be a family. Google ‘How Babies are Made.’ Can you handle having sex with someone before marriage? Or is that a bit too deep? No point going ahead if you are going to be racked with guilt/shame/insecurity. Also, there is no guarantee if you have sex with your ex-boyfriend, he will remain your current boyfriend. I think it is better to wait for a man who will wait till you are ready.

I am in such deep trouble. I thought I was in love with a boy and came out to my mom. There were a lot of tears and anger and then she finally accepted her only son is gay. Now, I’ve fallen in love with a beautiful girl. I don’t know how to tell my mum about my change of heart.

You sound like a pendulum but it’s okay to swing both ways. Now that your mum has accepted that you are gay, we can progress to the concept of bi. I’m sure there will be less tears but perhaps more confusion. Once you explain, I’m sure she will bi-te the bullet and champion you as she always has. Bi-the-way, you are lucky to have such a wonderful and understanding mom.
