MLA Vedavyas Kamath on Friday welcomed Goa government’s decision to lift the ban on transportation and distribution of fish from the coastal districts of Karnataka.

The Goa government suspected that the fish from Karnataka was adulterated with formalin and stopped the fish trucks entering into Goa.

In retaliation, Karnataka fishermen prevented Goa trucks  entering into the state. Before the issue could sour relationship between the two states, a delegation of fishermen leaders, led by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary held discussions with the Goa government.

Kamath recollected that their talks with Goa speaker Pramod Sawant, Health Minister Vishwajeeth P Rane and Fisheries Minister Vinod Palinarsa resulted in Goa lifting the ban on fish sales from Karnataka. “The fishermen now need not worry about their future,” he added.
