Last Updated 22 February 2019, 19:19 IST

MLA K G Bopaiah has accused the government of making deductions from the compensation amount deposited in the bank accounts of farmers, who have incurred crop loss following natural calamity.

In a release, the MLA stated that Rs 36,000 was deposited by the government to the bank account of Nanjappa, a farmer from Peraje village in the taluk on February 4, towards crop compensation. But, Rs 5,560 has been deducted on February 21.

During the first phase of the disbursal of crop compensation, 1,260 farmers have been provided with compensation. Some of the farmers have been provided with meagre sums like Rs 999, Rs 2,200 and Rs 2,500 as compensation even though the farmers have suffered a huge crop loss.

No reason has been stated for the deduction of amount from the bank accounts of farmers. The farmers were shocked by the move of the government. Condemning the government's gesture, MLA K G Bopaiah warned of staging a protest at the DC's office premises if the amount is not credited back to the accounts of the farmers within three days.
