Hindutva activist Sambhaji Bhide has yet again found himself in a controversy, this time over his derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.

Aged around 90, Sambaji Bhide, popularly known as Bhide Guruji is the founder of Shree Shiv Pratisthan Hindustan, which aims to propagate the teachings of legendary Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his son Sambhaji Maharaj and promote the conservation and preservation of forts.

At a function in Amravati, Bhide had allegedly made derogatory remarks against Gandhi.

Reacting to it, senior Congressman and former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan raised the issue in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Friday.

“A person named Sambhaji Bhide made a shameless and derogatory remark against the Father of the Nation, which will spread hatred in society. This person must be arrested immediately,” Chavan said.

“How can he roam free after making derogatory remarks about the Father of the Nation? This is an attempt to create trouble in the society,” he said and urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to call for the immediate arrest of Bhide.

Speaker Rahul Narwekar, who was chairing the House session, asked the government to look into the issue and do the needful.

“As directed, we would look into the issue,” he said.
