Amazon says it gave computer training to 30 lakh school students in India

New Delhi: E-commerce giant Amazon on Tuesday said it has provided computer training to around 30 lakh school children in India under its ‘Future Engineer’ programme, which was launched in 2021.

Addressing a media briefing Akshay Kashyap, Head-Amazon Future Engineer, Amazon India, said over 20,000 teachers across 272 districts in eight Indian states have also been provided training under the initiative in the past three years.

The company has set up a facility called ‘Amazon Future Makerspace Lab’ in Bengaluru through which it aims to train 4,000 students annually in different computer skills including artificial intelligence and robotics.

Kashyap said Amazon has engaged with different state governments and non-profit organisations to impart computer training in different parts of the country.

With an objective to bridge the gender gap in the technology sector, Kashyap said the company offers merit-based scholarships worth Rs 2 lakh each to 500 female students annually. The scholarship is given to female students pursuing undergraduate degrees in computer science engineering or related fields.
