Ram Gopal Varma finally appears before Andhra police for allegedly posting derogatory content

Hyderabad: Maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, popularly known as RGV, finally appeared before the Andhra police for questioning on Friday.

In November 2024, the Maddipadu Police Station in Prakasam district registered a case against him for allegedly posting derogatory content on social media about Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh, and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan when they were in the Opposition. RGV sought time to appear for questioning. Earlier, he approached the High Court seeking directions to police not to arrest him.

On Friday, RGV appeared before the Ongole Rural Police Station for questioning. At the Ongole rural police station, Circle Inspector K Srikanth Babu questioned RGV. The social media posts allegedly morphed images of Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and Nara Lokesh, and made derogatory comments.

A case was registered at the police station based on a complaint filed by TDP leader M Ramalingam. Varma had previously ignored police notices, citing his hectic film shooting schedule. He later went into hiding to avoid arrest.

Varma approached the High Court, alleging that the police had wrongly booked a case against him. The court granted him bail and directed him to cooperate with the police investigation.

Following the High Court's orders, the Ongole Rural Police recently served notices to Ram Gopal Varma again. On Friday, Varma appeared before the Ongole Rural Police Station for questioning. Interestingly, before his questioning, Varma met with YSRCP leader Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy at a hotel in Vellampalli and held discussions with him.
