<p> In another major embarrassment to the Army, a Colonel of National Cadet Corps (NCC) was physically assaulted by jawans after a Hawaldar was scolded for not turning for duty at their unit in Batala, Punjab.<br /><br /></p>.<p> The NCC has initiated a court of inquiry after Hawaldar Satnam Singh, who was on deputation from Sikh Light Infantry, took offence and physically assaulted Col BM Hansra when inquired why he was absented from duty on Sunday. <br /><br />This is the second incident in five days of growing indiscipline in the Army leading to officer-jawans clash and involving Sikh Li which also happens to be the regiment of the Army chief Gen Bikram Singh.<br /><br />Last Thursday, a boxing match turned ugly when two Majors and one soldier exchanged nasty blows inside the ring at their unit stationed at Dabathua in Meerut. All the three Army personnel belonged to 10 Sikh Light Infantry battalion. In this case too, the Army has ordered a court of Inquiry. NCC Director General (Punjab) Major General PS Mandher, meanwhile, confirmed to Deccan Herald that the embarrassing incident took place. <br /><br />“We are investigating the matter. I cannot share the details now,” Mandher stated.<br />When asked to confirm reports that Col BM Hansra was assaulted and needed hospital care, NCC DG refused to get into the details, stating merely that, “we have got information and we are investigating, then we will conduct an inquiry and further action would follow”.</p>
