<p>Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/himanta-biswa-sarma">Himanta Biswa Sarma</a> on Tuesday slashed power tariff by Re 1 per unit for all domestic consumers of the state.</p>.<p>He added that further cuts in power rates will be announced later in the year.</p>.<p>For all categories of domestic consumers, including Jeevan Dhara and high tension (HT), electricity charges will be reduced by Re 1 per kWh, officials said.</p>.Forest areas encroached in 25 states, UTs; MP, Assam worst affected: Govt report.<p>The decrease will be by Re 0.25 per kWh for all other categories of customers, they added.</p>.<p>"It’s April – temperatures will increase but your bijli bill will decrease," Sarma said in a post on X.</p>.<p>"Beginning today, families in Assam will see a drop of Re 1 per unit in electricity bills along with a rebate at the end of the year," he said.</p>.<p>"PS: This isn’t an April Fool Prank," the chief minister said, adding a smiling emoji to his post.</p>.<p>The slash in power tariff was proposed in the state annual budget, which was passed in the Assembly last month.</p>.<p>Sarma had also indicated earlier that rates will dip further towards the end of the year.</p>
