Several families evicted from railway land in Guwahati amid cold weather

Several families, mostly Bengali-speaking Muslims, were evicted from railway land by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) at Maligaon in Guwahati on Tuesday. Maligaon houses the headquarters of the NFR. The eviction drive left many families homeless amid cold weather conditions. Guwahati recorded a minimum temperature of 14 degrees Celsius on Thursday. While the eviction was carried out by the Northeast Frontier Railway, it took place against the backdrop of a series of eviction drives being undertaken across Assam under the BJP-led state government.
