Avaniyapuram Jallikattu 2025: A glimpse into Tamil Nadu's thrilling tradition

Here are some glimpses of this year's bull-taming event from Avaniyapuram in Madurai, where participants showcased their strength and courage by taming a fierce bull.

The popular 'Jallikattu', a bull-taming sport, was held on Pongal at Avaniyapuram in Tamil Nadu.

As the bulls, smeared with sandalwood paste, leaped out of the 'Vadivasal', the participants tried their best to get a hold around the bull's hump to emerge as the winner.

While tamers did try their best to embrace every bull, their efforts turned futile even it came to some bulls as the participants were frightened by the menacing looks and posture of the animals.

The sporting event also had its share of distressing moments as a young man, Navin Kumar, was gored to death by a bull, and at least 10 others sustained injuries.

While the owner of the bull, declared as BEST, won a tractor, the bull tamer who was declared first got a car.
